Cargo Ship Sinks After Hitting Mine in Strait of Hormuz

Local time on the 14th, the Navy of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) issued a statement saying that earlier that morning, a cargo ship carrying 2,500 containers attempted to navigate an unauthorized dangerous shipping lane in the Strait of Hormuz. The vessel exploded, caught fire and sank after striking a mine.

The statement warned local vessels and fishermen to exercise extreme caution when passing through the lane, to avoid collisions with floating containers on the water surface.
